X-ray Astronomy postdoctoral position at the National Observatory of Athens

Applications are invited for a 2-year research position at the National Observatory of Athens in the field of high energy astrophysics. The successful applicant will primarily work in the development of software for the eROSITA instrument onboard the SPECTRUM- RG mission. The Applicants ideally should have obtained a Ph.D. in astronomy or a related field by the starting date of the appointment.

 

The main research activities of the X-ray group of the National Observatory of Athens on the characterisation of the X-ray populations in XMM and Chandra extragalactic surveys, the cosmological evolution of AGN and their obscuration properties, the relation between the formation of galaxies and the the growth of the supermassive black holes at their centres. Georgantopoulos in Athens and in close collaboration with Dr. H. Brunner as well as members of staff and/or software engineers at MPE.

 

The starting date of the post is before August 2013 and the gross monthly salary is 2,500 Euros.
