14 billion years of the history of the universe unveiled by the satellite mission Planck

Resumo
On 21st of March 2013 ESA, NASA and the Planck Collaboration will announce the main scientific scientific results from the Planck spacecraft. Simultaneously data products and scientific papers based on the “nominal” operations period will be made public through the Planck Legacy Archive. The Planck mission has been designed to measure the Cosmic Microwave Background, CMB, anisotropy with unprecedented accuracy and determine the physical properties of the early universe. To this end the satellite's instruments generate enormous wealth of data that requires most advanced methods of reduction and analysis to enable full scientific exploitation. Some of these methods involve modern statistical, algebraic and computer science techniques. In this talk I will give an overview of the Planck mission and an account of the main scientific results presented in these papers. Finally I will discuss Planck's major contribution to advances in Cosmology.
