PDRA in Extragalactic Computational Astrophysics - University of Central Lancashire

PDRA position in Extragalactic Computational Astrophysics Applications are invited for a 3-year Post-Doctoral Research Associate post working with Dr. Victor Debattista to carry out research on the formation and evolution of star clusters at the centres of galaxies using hydrodynamical simulations. The project, funded by STFC, includes collaborators in Switzerland and the US who are leading projects to gather observational data and develop state-of-the-art simulation codes. The project will have access to considerable computing resources, including at the 600 cpu High Performance Computing facility of the University of Central Lancashire, at COSMOS (the UK national cosmology supercomputer) as well as computing time via international collaborators.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. galactic astrophysics) and ideally have experience of computational astrophysics. Skills in scientific computing in a Linux/Unix environment are essential. The Jeremiah Horrocks Institute fosters research in extragalactic, solar and stellar astrophysics (see the institute webpage http://www.star.uclan.ac.uk/). Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Victor Debattista (vpdebattista@uclan.ac.uk). Application forms and further details are available at:
