Three fellowships for PhD students

Fellowships to work in a project on how subdwarf stars based mostly on space data. A candidate must be a PhD student.

We offer three research fellowships in the context of two research projects (PI: Andy Baran) hosted by the Physics Department of the Pedagogical University of Cracow and funded by the National Science Centre in Poland. The projects aim at studying hot subdwarf B stars including pulsations and binaries using Kepler, K2, TESS and GAIA data. Ground-based spectroscopic support will also be used. Fellowships are open to students enrolled, or who will enroll this year, in a PhD program in astronomy at any university in Poland. In the latter case, the enrollment should first be discussed with the PI of the projects.

Requirements for fellowships:
1/ duration of 4 years
- knowledge of binary systems, including proximity effects
- knowledge of photometric and spectroscopic analyses
- coding (Python preferred)

2/ duration of 4 years
- knowledge of GAIA mission
- knowledge of photometric and spectroscopic analyses
- coding (Python preferred)

3/ duration of 3 years (extra year possible)
- knowledge of photometric analysis
- preferred knowledge of spectroscopic analysis
- coding (Python preferred)

Applicants should send a CV, a list of master courses with grades, a letter summarizing past research experience and motivations, names and contact details of two references, and a document confirming a PhD status (can be delivered at any time but not later than October 10, 2018), to Andy Baran (andrzej.baran @ up.krakow.pl).

The expected starting date for all positions is October 1, 2018.
