The ELT will, for the first time, allow us to see the universe expanding in real time, by measuring the redshift drift. This quantity, which essentially measures how the redshift of an object is changing with time, gives a new insight about our Universe and, most important, what it might be made of. There are two main ways we can use the redshift drift measurements to this end. We can either fit the parameters of a certain model or study its dynamics. My work is about how we can relate both approaches.
