IA/U.Lisboa Seminar - Planetary atmospheres From Solar System to Exoplanets: atmospheric characterization (..) - 8 setembro 2017

PhD project, first year seminar. This year's work was focused on the study of Venus atmosphere dynamics – measuring wind velocities using cloud-tracking and high-resolution spectroscopy (doppler velocimetry). I will present results from two campaigns, both were ground and space coordinated observations: (1) CFHT/ESPaDOnS (doppler velocimetry) and VEx/VIRTIS (cloud-tracking) zonal and meridional wind measurements from top cloud deck (~70 km), observations from Apr 2014 (Machado et al. 2017); (2) TNG/NICS and VEx/VIRTIS cloud tracking of lower deck winds (~48 km), using IR images (2.28 μm) from Venus’ night-side. The 1st phase of the PhD will focus is the characterization of planetary atmospheres, firstly the dynamics and later the chemical composition. The final phase of the PhD will consist in using the acquired experience and knowledge (namely in high-resolution spectroscopy) to characterize an exoplanet atmosphere.
