Extragalactic Astronomy is the field of Physics that studies what happens in the spatial range between the closest stars (and their aggregate, the Milky Way) and Cosmology. Of course, it uses these two and tries to help both, but its goal is the understanding of the bricks that compose our Universe, which are the galaxies. We will review the successes and problems of our current paradigm of galaxy formation and evolution, the so-called ΛCDM, from the smallest scales (our cosmic neighbourhood) all the way to the Universe at large, but always from the large scale structure point of view. I will also try to be biased (as expected) towards the activities we conduct in our Faculty of Sciences in order to ascertain the properties of the Universe we live in. This seminar will be given in a friendly “outreach for physicists” level, so please bring along all the questions and criticisms to Astronomy you may have.
